IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Dayton women's basketball team held a halftime lead but fell to No. 18/18 Iowa for the second consecutive year in the championship game of the Hawkeye Challenge in front of 3,381 fans. Dayton falls to 1-3 overall and Iowa improves to 4-0.

Andrea Hoover and
Ally Malott each scored 24 points to lead all scorers. Hoover, who was named to the all-tournament team, also had a career-high 16 rebounds. Malott became the 22
nd Flyer to reach 1,000 points in her career. She needed just five points going into this game and she got them early. She reached the milestone at the 17:57 mark of the first half.
Dayton led Iowa 43-40 at the half with a 46.9 percent field goal percentage, and holding the Hawkeyes to just 38.9 percent.
The Flyers held a 10-point lead with 9:47 left to play in the second half, which saw the Flyers plagued with foul trouble and turnovers. UD led 79-78 with 3:41 left to play, but Bethany Doolittle knocked down two free throws with 3:24 to give Iowa its first lead since the 17:50 mark of the second stanza. Malott's free throws with 1:35 left got Dayton within one, 82-81. Iowa went on an 8-2 run to close out the final 1:35 of the game.
For the game, UD had 26 fouls, while Iowa had 16. The Hawkeyes also scored 24 points off UD turnovers, of which the Flyers had 20. Iowa had just nine turnovers.The Flyers won the battle of the boards 49-37.
Dayton returns home to UD Arena to host Providence next Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. ET.
