DAYTON, Ohio -,The University of Dayton women's basketball team topped Providence, 72-56, in the Flyers' home opener Wednesday night at UD Arena. Dayton improves to 2-3 while Providence falls to 1-4 on the season. The Flyers were led by senior
Andrea Hoover with a season-high 27 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists.
Dayton led 31-26 at the half with Hoover leading the way with 10 first-half points. The first half was a back-and-forth contest with five lead changes and four ties and neither team garnered a lead of more than five points.
UD led 33-29 with 18:42 remaining in the game before a 25-10 Dayton run over the next 7:45 put the Flyers in control with a 58-39 advantage. Dayton held Providence to just 28.6% (10-of-35) from the field in the second half and 31.8% (21-of-66) for the game.

Ally Malott added her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman

Kelley Austria each scored eight points and sophomore
Saicha Grant-Allen added seven points.
Dayton dominated points in the paint, outscoring Providence, 46-24, down low. UD also won the battle of the boards out-rebounding Providence 54-40. Dayton also grabbed 16 offensive rebounds which led to 20 second chance points.
The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 as they travel across town to take on the Wright State Raiders. Tip-off at the Nutter Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
