FAIRBORN, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team battled crosstown foe Wright State Wednesday evening and picked up a hard-fought, three-point victory over the Raiders, 79-76.

Ally Malott led the Flyers with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double effort this season while junior
Kelley Austria added 15 points and sophomore
Celeste Edwards chipped in 12 points. Freshman
JaVonna Layfield crashed the boards for an eight-rebound night as well.
Dayton shot much better in the second half, improving from 32.4% in the first 20 minutes to 53.3% in the second half. The Flyers and Raiders were even in the rebound department with 41 each, but Dayton benefited from 28 points in the paint and 24 points off turnovers.
The Flyers came out of the locker room in the second half focused and went inside in order to wear down the Raiders. By the second media time out of the half, Dayton had pushed their lead back to eight at 52-44. The fouls started to hurt Wright State as well, forcing the Raiders to go to their bench. The Flyers kept pushing the tempo though and doubled their points in the paint before the clock went under eight minutes to play. Wright State was not able to catch back up to Dayton and the Flyers improved their record to 3-3 on the year with a 79-76 win over the Raiders.
Dayton jumped out to an early lead in the contest thanks to a pair of three-pointers by
Kelley Austria, putting the visiting Flyers on top 8-2.
Saicha Grant-Allen piled on with six of the next eight points for Dayton, four of which came at the free throw line. Back-to-back three's by Malott and Burdette gave the Flyers their first double-digit lead of the contest. A Wright State run closed the gap over the final four minutes of the first half and made it a one-point game, but the Flyers kept their advantage heading into the break. Through the first 20 minutes of play, Dayton led Wright State 36-25. The Flyers had been up by as much as 16 at the 8:16 mark.
The Raiders were led by Tayler Mingo's 32 points, including 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Tayler Stanton pulled down 15 rebounds as well for the 4-1 Raiders.
The Flyers (3-3) will return home next to host Purdue University on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. ET.
