DAYTON - A career-high 24 points from
Jordan Sibert propelled the University of Dayton Flyers to a 75-61 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Tuesday night at UD Arena. Dayton improved to 9-2 with the victory as Georgia Tech fell to 8-3.Â
Â
Dayton used a strong outside shooting performance (10-of-18 from the three, 56%) while forcing Georgia Tech into just 4-of-20 (20%) from beyond the arc.
Â
Dyshawn Pierre scored a season-high 19 points on 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc to join Sibert as the two Flyers in double-digits. Pierre also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Â
Kyle Davis scored nine points and dished out a career-high six assists.
Darrell Davis added eight points on 2-of-2 shooting from the three.
Â
A Georgia Tech jumper by Tadric Jackson with 13:43 left in the first half put the score at 13-12 with the Flyers holding the lead. Dayton proceeded to go on a 13-5 run over the next 3:37 to increase the Flyer lead to 26-17 and forced Georgia Tech to burn a timeout with 9:44 left until halftime.
Â
However, Georgia Tech responded with a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the lead to 26-23, but Dayton countered with an 8-2 run to push the lead back out to 34-25.
Â
UD went into the locker room with a 39-33 lead after shooting a blistering 7-of-10 (70%) from the three. Sibert paced the Flyers with 15 first-half points.
Â
Georgia Tech came out of the locker room on a 5-0 run after a three by Quinton Stephens with 18:41 remaining to trim the Flyer lead to 39-38. Dayton proceeded to call a time-out to regroup. The Flyers went on a 12-0 run out of that 30-second time-out to regain the momentum and push their lead out to 51-38 with 13:42 left in the game after a pair of made free throws by Pierre. The Yellow Jackets would not get any closer than 10 points the rest of game.
Â
Despite being outrebounded 39-27 and giving up 15 offensive rebounds, Dayton was able to limit Georgia Tech into just six second-chance points. The Flyers also shot 21-of-46 (46%) from the field and 23-of-31 (74%) from the foul line. Dayton coughed the ball up just six times while forcing the Yellow Jackets into 14 turnovers.
Â
Brian Gregory became the first former Flyer coach to return to UD Arena to play the Flyers. Gregory coached on the Dayton sidelines for eight seasons, and he received a warm extended welcome from the crowd of 12,424. But once the game started, the Flyer Faithful got solidly behind the home team, sparking them to their 11th straight homecourt win.
Â
Dayton has also now won eight straight games over ACC opponents.
Â
The Flyers return to action next Tuesday Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. ET in their final non-conference tilt against the Ole Miss Rebels. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
