DAYTON -- The University of Dayton Flyers defeated the La Salle Explorers 65-53 to extend their winning streak to five and improved to 18-8 on the season, 6-5 in the Atlantic 10.
Dayton was led by
Jordan Sibert, 17 points and 5-8 from three, and
Matt Kavanaugh, 16 points and 4 rebounds. Kavanaugh's 16 points was a season high for the senior center.
Devon Oliver recorded a double-double, his third on the season. He ended the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Flyers started the game off cold, making just one of its first 10 shots from the field. Dayton was able to keep in reaching distance as the Flyers' defensive efforts held La Salle to 30 percent for the first half.
UD began heating up with contributions from
Vee Sanford and Sibert to go on a 20-4 run to end the first half up 27-21.
The Explorers held the Flyers scoreless for over four minutes and were able to cut the lead down to 2 (40-38 with 13:57 to go), but Dayton blanked La Salle on four straight possessions before scoring two buckets to regain control of the game.
The difference on the night was the turnover margin. La Salle was forced to turn over the ball 17 times to Dayton's 10. The Flyers were able to score 22 points off turnovers, compared to just nine for La Salle.
La Salle's leading scorer was Jarrell Wright. He had 15 points and 5 rebounds in a losing effort. The Explorers fell to 12-13 on the season and 4-7 in the A-10.
The Flyers' next match up is at Duquesne at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
