BROOKLYN – Three Flyers scored in double figures, but Dayton fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks 70-67 in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals.
Dyshawn Pierre led Dayton with 11 points, while Matt Kavanugh and
Jordan Sibert scored 10 points apiece.
Dayton led 67-66 with 34 seconds left in regulation after a Kavanaugh baseline jumper. Saint Joe's Langston Galloway on the ensuing possession sank a three to put the Hawks ahead for good with 19 seconds to go.
A game-winning 3-point attempt by
Devin Oliver with a second left missed wide on the next Dayton possession.
The Flyers shot 48 percent from the floor and was 7-of-19 from beyond the arc. However, UD converted only 6-of-14 free throws and allowed Saint Joseph's to convert nine three-pointers.
The loss drops UD to 23-10 overall. It is just Dayton's second loss in the last 12 games, both coming to Saint Joseph's.
