Flyers to Face Charlotte, North Florida, Jacksonville and Nicholls State

DAYTON, Ohio - Following its exciting 3-2 win over former Atlantic 10 foe Xavier at home Tuesday night, the Dayton volleyball team will be participating in the UNF/JU Radisson Invitational Sept. 19-20 in Jacksonville, Florida. The Flyers will play four matches over the two-day event - two each at North Florida's UNF Arena and at Jacksonville's Swisher Gym. Dayton is set to play another former A-10 opponent in Charlotte on Friday at 1 p.m. at UNF Arena followed by a 7 p.m. tilt at Swisher Gym against host Jacksonville.

About the Opponents
Charlotte had its three-match winning streak snapped Tuesday night with a 3-2 loss at Gardner-Webb and come into Friday's contest against Dayton at 8-5 for the season. The 49ers are led by  Irem Asci with 3.55 kills/set and Shelby Green with 4.73 digs/set. Jacksonville is currently enjoying a four-match winning streak, including three-straight sweeps. The 6-4 Dolphins are led by Sammie Strausbaugh with 4.80 kills/set and the team's primary setter is Jizzian Gesualdo with 9.86 assists/set. North Florida lost two of three last weekend Campbell's tournament and currently sits at 3-7 on the young season. The Ospreys' Courtney Miller records 2.85 kills/set and Cari Whitmire passes 3.94 digs/set. Nicholls State comes into the weekend's matches with a 3-6 overall mark but the Colonels have won three of their last four matches. NSU is led by Kaci Eaton with 4.00 kills/set and Kalynn Egea gets under 5.55 digs/set.

Series Stuff
• Charlotte and Dayton have played 11 times since the series start in 2005 with the Flyers winning all but one match - the first one. Of Dayton's 10 wins over Charlotte, eight have been straight-set sweeps, including the most recent outcome on Nov. 2, 2012.
• The Flyers have only met the Jacksonville Dolphins once before, Sept. 8, 2007. UD came away with the 3-1 win during the early-season tournament match.
• Saturday's match between Dayton and North Florida with be the first meeting between the two programs.
• Saturday will also be the first time Dayton has squared off against Nicholls State.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season overall, and first since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2014. His record at Dayton is 135-46 and his overall win-loss mark sits at 311-210 in 16 seasons as a head coach.
• The Flyers have won five of their last six matches.
• Junior Alaina Turner leads the team, ranks third in the Atlantic 10 and 15th nationally with 4.48 kills/set (national ranking does not include stats from match against Xavier).
• Last year, UD finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in blocks/set (3.0) and Isolde Hannan was 38th nationally with 1.31 blocks/set.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 10 times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title eight times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and have made nine NCAA appearances in program history.

13th to 1,000
With two wins at the season-opening Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton now surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program and is just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 13th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,005-563 over 44 seasons (1970).

Also Passing 1,000
Junior libero Janna Krafka has also reached 1,000 ... career digs. With her 33 digs at the BGSU Hampton Inn Invitational, she reached the 1,000-dig mark for her career. With 1,124 career digs, Krafka now ranks fifth all-time in the UD career record book. She is 305 digs behind Cathy Wojciechowski (1990-93) who ranks fourth with 1,429 career digs.

Atlantic 10 Honors Krafka, Erhahon with Weekly Awards
Junior libero Janna Krafka was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Amber Erhahon picked up league Rookie of the Week honors Monday as announced by the A-10 office. This is the third career DPOW award for Krafka who averaged 5.64 digs/set for the Flyers at the Cleveland State Invitational. Her 62 digs over the weekend moved her into fifth place all-time on Dayton's career digs list. Erhahon earned her first career weekly award after earning the starting nod against Navy in the CSU Invite finalé. For the weekend she averaged 2.57 kills/set and 1.29 blocks/set for the Flyers.

Krafka, Erhahon Named to Cleveland State Invite All-Tournament Team
Junior Janna Krafka and freshman Amber Erhahon were named to the 2014 Cleveland State Invitational All-Tournament Team after outstanding performances. Krafka averaged 5.64 digs/set over the weekend and also moved into fifth place all-time for career digs in the UD record book. Erhahon earned her first career start against Navy and recorded 2.57 kills/set and 1.29 blocks/set over Dayton's three matches.

Turner Earns Second All-Tourney Nod at Flyer-Raider Invitational
Junior Alaina Turner earned her second-consecutive appointment to an all-tournament team last weekend for her play at the Flyer-Raider Invitational. She averaged 4.33 kills/set and 2.83 digs/set, including a career-high-tying 22 kills and 14 digs in Dayton's 3-1 win over Bakersfield.

Hannan, Turner Tabbed for All-Tourney Squad at BGSU
For their play at the Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, senior Isolde Hannan and junior Alaina Turner were named to the All-Tournament Team. Hannan finished the weekend with 10 total blocks and hit at a blistering .414 with 14 kills for the Flyers. Turner was the team's leading attacker, averaging 4.30 kills/set (43) while also getting under 2.10 digs/set and recording seven blocks.

UD Picked Third in A-10 Preseason Poll
Dayton has been chosen to finish in third place in the Atlantic 10 for 2014. The Flyers, winners of four of the last five A-10 titles, tallied 78 points in voting among the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office Aug. 20. Defending champion Duquesne was selected to win the title, receiving eight first-place votes.

Up Next
This weekend's UNF/JU Radisson Invitational closes out tournament play for the Flyers. Next weekend, Dayton will open Atlantic 10 Conference play on the road with a 7 p.m match at Duquesne Friday, Sept. 26. The Flyers are skipping over to Philadelphia next Saturday to square off against the La Salle Explorers and will close the weekend at Penn on Sunday.
