DAYTON IMPROVES TO 6-0 WITH 44-14 WIN AT VALPO

Flyers Are 3-0 In PFL, Alone In 1st Place

VALPARAISO -- The University of Dayton Flyers broke open a 14-14 game with 30 unanswered points to win at Valparaiso 44-14 on Saturday.
The first of three William Will field goals broke the tie and gave Dayton a 17-14 halftime lead.  Dayton scored on its first five possessions of the second half, capitalizing on a three-and-out, a fumble, an interception, another fumble and a fourth-down stop.
The victory moves Dayton to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Pioneer Football League (PFL). The Flyers are all alone in first place in the PFL.

SCORING
• Dayton scored 14 points before Valparaiso had a first down, taking the opening kickoff and driving 65 yard in 15 plays and then going 59 yards in seven plays.  Alex Jeske ran the first one in from the five and hit Tyler Tumpane from seven yards out for the second.
• The Crusaders tied it by the 9:11 mark of the second quarter on Ryan Clarke-to Jean Rene touchdown passes of 32 and 20 yards.
• UD re-took the lead for good on a 36-yard field goal by William Will on the very next possession.
• VU got the ball to start the second half, and Dayton forced a three-and out.  The Flyers needed nine plays to drive 59 yards to make it a 10-point game.  Jack Adams ran it in from the two.
• Two plays later, a big hit by Christopher Beaschler popped the ball free and it was scooped up by Ryan Schwenke and run in from 35 yards out to make the score 31-14.
• Three plays later, Travis Nees came up with an interception and returned it 19 yards to the 19, setting up a second Will field goal, this one from 35 yards.
• Schwenke came up with another fumble on the run and brought it back 36 yards to the five.  Adams scored on his second two-yard run.
• On Dayton's next possession, Will closed out the scoring with a 22-yard field goal with 12:31 left in the game.
