BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton volleyball team dispatched Fordham 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-11) Saturday night at the Rams' Rose Hill Gym. The win extends Dayton's winning streak to 18 matches and the Flyers remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play. Dayton improves to 20-5 overall and 11-0 in A-10 action while Fordham falls to 8-20 on the season and 2-9 in league play.
STATS OF THE MATCH• Senior
Alaina Turner and sophomore
Amber Erhahon led the Flyers with eight kills each while hitting at .500 and .700 respectively. Erhahon was also the team's leading blocker with five.
• Sophomore
Megan Giardina set 17 assists, had three digs and served up an ace as sophomore
Jane Emmenecker tallied 14 assists.
• Senior
Janna Krafka passed a match-high 11 digs and sophomore
Maggie Schutter served up two aces.
• Fordham was led by Natalie Martinez and Olivia LaPorta with five kills each while Brennan Delsing had eight digs.
• Dayton recorded 36 kills to Fordham's 19 and the Flyers out-hit the Rams, .304 to -.061.
SET-BY-SET• Set One: A kill from Turner gave Dayton a four-point lead at 7-3 early on in the first set. A 3-0 Flyer spurt pushed the advantage to six, 11-5, but a Dayton service error pulled Fordham to within three, 13-10. UD was up five, 20-15, and FOR threatened to within two, 20-18, but the Flyers went on to take the set, 25-19.
• Set Two: Fordham got off to a quick 3-1 start in the second set but Dayton pulled even at 4-4. The Flyers were ahead five, 11-6, and the lead was seven, 18-11, after a kill from Turner. Dayton closed out set two by scoring the last three points of the frame to win the set, 25-15.
• Set Three: The Rams served up back-to-back aces to jump out to a 5-1 lead in the third game but the score was tied at seven points apiece after a kill from Sloan. The Flyers used a 4-0 run to stretch out a seven-point advantage at 16-9. Dayton reached 20 leading by 10. The Rams would only score one more point as UD claimed the set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.
UP NEXT• The Flyers will return to Frericks Center for their final homestand of the season next weekend. Dayton will play host to George Washington on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, UD will recognize its five senior team members for Senior Day against George Mason. First serve on Oct. 8 is set for 1 p.m. Admission to Frericks Center is free.
