DAYTON - The University of Dayton Flyers defeated the Furman Paladins on Saturday night at UD Arena, 70-50, in front of a crowd of 12,619 fans. The win improves Dayton's record to 8-2 and Furman drops to 6-5 on the year. Furman came into the matchup versus the Flyers having won four of its last five games.
GAME BREAKDOWN• After a back-and-forth first ten minutes of the game with three lead changes, Furman guard John Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Paladins a 17-12 advantage, their largest lead of the game.
• The Flyers responded to the five-point deficit by going on a 9-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Dayton did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
• The largest lead in the half for either team was six points, when Dayton led 25-19 after
Kendall Pollard knocked down a pair of free throws at the 4:55 mark.
• Dayton brought a 31-29 lead into halftime.
• The Flyers went on a 10-2 run after halftime, increasing their lead to 41-31.
• After leading 50-40, Dayton went on another 9-0 run off of 3-pointers from
Darrell Davis,
John Crosby and
Kyle Davis to break the game open and take a 59-40 advantage with 6:42 remaining in the game.
• Stephen Croone scored the next points to cut the Furman deficit to 17 with 5:36 to go, but that was the closest the Paladins would get for the remainder of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS• Dayton outrebounded Furman 26-3 in the second half and 41-20 for the game; Furman held the rebounding edge at halftime, 17-15.
• The Flyers are now 8-0 when outrebounding their opponents
• Despite having more turnovers than Furman on the game, The Flyers were able to make more of their opportunities, scoring 15 points off of 12 Furman turnovers. Furman scored six points off of 16 Dayton turnovers.
• Dayton sank 17 of its first 18 free throws in the game and finished 19-22 (86%) from the line.

Kyle Davis (2-2) combined for a perfect 13-13.
• Furman only attempted three free throws on the game (2-3).

KEY STATS• The Flyers were led by a pair of double-double performances from
Charles Cooke (11 points, 15 rebounds) and
Steve McElvene (11 points, 10 rebounds).
• This was Cooke's first career double-double and his 15 rebounds marked a career-high.
• McElvene now has three double-doubles for the season.
• The last time Dayton had multiple players post a double-double in the same game was December 29th, 2013, when Devin Oliver and
Dyshawn Pierre accomplished the feat at UD Arena versus Murray State.

Darrell Davis each added nine points, nearly joining Cooke and McElvene in double figures for the Flyers.
• Smith and
Darrell Davis both connected on three 3-point field goals; that figure marks a season-high for Davis.
• Furman's Geoff Beans led all scorers with 12 points.
