KYLE DAVIS’ BUCKET WITH 2.1 SEC LEFT LIFTS UD TO 64-63 WIN

Cooke’s 21 Leads Three Flyers In Double Figures

DAYTON – A Kyle Davis pull-up jumper in the lane with 2.1 seconds to go on Tuesday sent the University of Dayton Flyers home for Christmas with a 64-63 win over the Miami RedHawks in their stockings.

GAME BREAKDOWN:
• Dayton scored first on a Charles Cooke three-pointer, but would lead only briefly once more in the first half.  Miami held a lead for 13:11 of the first half, while UD only led for 1:28.
• Despite out shooting the Flyers 58.3% to 33.3% from the field, the RedHawks's largest lead in the first 20 minutes was four.
• Halftime came with Miami leading 31-29.
• The roles were reversed in the second half.  Dayton had the hot shooting hand, making two-thirds of their field goal attempts (14 of 21), while Miami cooled off to make 12 of 32 ((37.5%).
• UD led by as much as 11 midway through the second half, but MU came back to take a 63-62 lead with 1:25 left in the contest.
• Miami fought back and after a steal they took the lead with 1:25 remaining to play.  The RedHawks came up with a steal and had a chance to increase their lead but a big Kendall Pollard block at the 1:11 mark turned away the layup.
• Miami kept the ball but on the ensuing possession, the Dayton defense forced an over and back with 56 seconds to go.
• Miami drew a charge on Pollard at the 43 second mark, and then let the shot clock run down.  Zach McCormick took the shot with 19 seconds to go, but it was not until nine seconds and two more missed shots had happened before Charles Cooke pulled down the rebound and headed up court.
• Cooke penetrated, and then kicked it to Kyle Davis on the left wing.  Davis split the gap between two Miami defenders pulled up in the lane, and hit a contested 10-foot jumper in the lane with 2.1 seconds left.
• Miami took a timeout but Eric Washington's desperation heave from past mid-court was wide right, giving the Flyers the 64-63 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Dayton's 66.7 % shooting in the second half included making 10 of 11 two-point shots (UD made just four of 15 shots inside the arc in the first half).
• The Flyers made their last nine two-pointers, over the last 18:10 of the game, including of course Davis' game-winner.
• The win was Archie Miller's 99th as a head coach, all at Dayton.
• Dayton improves to 9-2 on the year, and clinches its 17th consecutive December with a winning record.
• Miami evens its record at 6-6.

KEY STATS

• Charles Cooke led all scorers with 21 points.  In UD's nine wins, Cooke averages 16.2 points a game.  In the Flyers' two losses, he has scored a total of 12 points.
• Kyle Davis had 12 points for Dayton on four-for six shooting.
• Redshirt freshman Steve McElvene missed his fourth
• double-double by one rebound.  He had 10 points also on four-for-six shooting), nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
• It is worth noting that this was the first game back for senior Dyshawn Pierre, who missed the first semester due to a University suspension.  Pierre did not dress for the game, but was on the bench.
