STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Dayton softball team (2-5) fell to NC State (6-6) in day two of action at the Eagle Classic held at Georgia Southern University on Saturday, February 21.
NC State got off to a hot start taking an 8-0 lead after pounding five hits in the first inning. Flyer sophomore,
Gabrielle Snyder, homered to right field in the bottom of the first and Dayton trailed 8-1. The Flyers scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth off of Wolfpack errors, which cut the NC State lead to 10-3.
NC State catcher Maggie Hawkins had a solid day going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. In the end, the Wolfpack offense was just too much for the Flyers and Dayton was defeated 12-3 in six innings.
Kayla English (1-3) was charged with the loss for the Flyers after throwing 0.2 innings. She gave up five earned runs on three hits and walked two.
The Flyers close out play in the Eagle Classic tomorrow when they face Bradley University at 1:30 PM and then take on Georgia Southern at 3:30 PM.
