DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team turned in a dominating performance to defeat the La Salle Explorers, 91-49, at UD Arena Sunday afternoon. On Senior Day, senior
Ally Malott led the team with 20 points and was one rebound shy of the double-double.
With the victory, Dayton moves to 21-5 on the season, 12-2 in conference play. La Salle falls to 13-14 on the year, and 4-10 in the Atlantic 10.
Dayton spread the wealth around, with all 11 players scoring in the game. Junior
Amber Deane came off the bench to add 16 points and a team-high six assists while senior
Andrea Hoover and sophomore Andrijana,Cvitkovic both got into the double digits with 11 points each. Sophomore
Christy Macioce had a career-high six points on 2-3 shooting from long range.
As a team Dayton, shot 57 percent from the field and 56 percent from the three-point line. The Flyers out-rebounded the Explorers, 49-28, and out-scored them 36-14 in the paint.
The Flyers took advantage of the Explorers' shooting woes, as La Salle only shot 22% in the first half. Shooting 52% from the field, Dayton took a 44-20 lead into the half.
The same narrative continued in the second half as Dayton continued to hold La Salle to fewer than 25% shooting. Behind the balanced scoring attack, Dayton would run away with the 42-point victory, the team's second largest margin of victory this season.
La Salle was led by Amy Griffin who scored 20 points on the day on 7-22 shooting.
Dayton has one final home game left this season, as the Flyers will take on the Massachusetts Minutewomen on Thursday, Feb. 26. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
