DAYTON – While the University of Dayton Flyers celebrated having two 1,000 point scorers on the team at the same time, it was a defensive effort in the paint that keyed UD's 76-63 win over George Mason Wednesday night the University of Dayton Arena.

Dayton improved to 21-6 on the season, and won its 20th straight home game in the process.  The Flyers also are now 11-4 in the Atlantic 10, and thanks to upsets at Richmond and Rhode Island, are in a four-way tie for first place in the A-10 with VCU, Davidson and Rhode Island.

Shortly after junior Dyshawn Pierre was awarded a game ball before the start of the game for scoring his 1,000th career point last week, senior Jordan Sibert scored his 1,000th collegiate point (123 at Ohio State, 977 and counting at Dayton).  Sibert entered the game needing eight points but tripled that and led all scorers in the game with 24 points.  Sibert shot 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the three-point line.

Dayton's Kendall Pollard added with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Kyle Davis was very aggressive on the offensive end, drawing fouls and shooting 12 free throws en route to 13 points on the night.  Pierre finished with nine rebounds and five assists.

The Flyers with only three players on the roster standing as tall as 6-foot-6, were faced with taking on the best big man in the league, Shevon Thompson.  Thompson came into the game averaging 13.0 points and an Atlantic 10-leading 12.0 rebounds a game.  He finished the game with just six points and three rebounds on the night.

With five lead changes and six times tied, Dayton went into the locker room ahead of the Patriots 35-31. The Flyers took control early in the second half with high intensity and excellent ball movement.  A Pollard three (just his second of the season) extended the lead by 13 points with 13:28 left.  A Bobby Wehrli trey took it out to 18 two minutes later.  And a Sibert three gave UD its biggest lead of the night for the final time, 70-51 with 6:47 to go.

Thanks to shooting .684 (13-19) from the floor in the second half, Dayton shot .556 for the game.  UD also shot .529 (9-17) from beyond the arc in the game.

George Mason was led by freshman guard Isaiah Jackson who had 13 points and seven rebounds.  The Patriots fall to 8-19 overall and 3-12 in the A-10.

The Flyers see action next at 22nd-ranked VCU on Saturday, February 28th at 2 p.m. ET.  The game will be televised on ESPN2.
