Kayla English allowed just three hits in game one and struck out her 100
th of the season. Freshman
Manda Cash earned the save, marking her sixth of the season, which ranks second in the nation. In game two, sophomore
Gabrielle Snyder threw a complete-game shutout. The Flyers improve to 30-12 overall and 14-2 in the A-10. The Colonials are 21-19 overall and 4-10 in conference action.
Game 1—  Dayton 4, George Washington 1The Flyers picked up their 13
th Atlantic 10 Conference win with a 4-1 victory over GW Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader, breaking its single-season record for conference wins.
UD's
Kennedy Haynes scored on a crazy play in the second inning, starting with a stolen base at second. The GW catcher tried to throw her out at second and the ball went into the outfield, whereupon Haynes advanced all the way home.
Haynes scored again in the fourth on an RBI single by
Gabrielle Snyder.
The Colonials notched their only run of the day in the fifth inning with three consecutive hits, culminating with an RBI double to centerfield.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Katie Ryan drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Flyers up 3-1.
Senior
Tiffany Ricks provided the final scoring of the game with a homerun to leftfield.
English earned the win after going 4.2 innings, striking out four, allowing just three hits and one run. Cash pitched 2.1 innings in relief to earn the save. She allowed no hits and struck out four to earn her sixth save of the season.
Game 2 – Dayton 4, George Washington 0Snyder went 7.0 innings to earn the complete game shutout in game two for the Flyers. She struck out five and allowed just three hits in the victory. She improves to 7-5 overall. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, an RBI and a double.
Seniors
Natalie Mariano and Ricks and freshmen
Kayla Haberstich and
Jaclyn Kweder also had multiple-hit games.
Kathryn Hess and Kweder also doubled.
The Flyers did most their damage in the third inning. Kweder started the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error by the right fielder. Hess doubled to right center to score Kweder. Snyder doubled down the right field line to score Hess.
Ricks kept the momentum going with an infield single. Ricks then stole second base, allowing Snyder to score after a fielding error on the throw down attempt.
Dayton's final run came in the fifth on some small ball. Snyder walked to start the inning. Kirstin Bartlett pinch ran for her. Bartlett advanced to second after an error.
Kailee Budicin put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Bartlett to third. Bartlett scored after
Hannah DeSalvo put the ball in play for a fielder's choice. DeSalvo also made two spectacular catches in right field for the Flyers.
The Flyers take on George Washington in the final game of the series Sunday, April 19 at noon at UD Softball Stadium.Â
