MASON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw Friday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship, falling to defending champion George Washington 4-0.
GW took the doubles points by winning the first and second doubles matches by the identical scores of 8-3. Needing just three points to advance to the tournament semifinals, The Colonials won at first, sixth and second singles in straight sets.
Francisco Dias beat UD's
Aidan Koross 6-0, 6-2. Cahit Kapukiran got the Flyers'
Simon Jayaram 6-1, 6-1. And Danil Zelenkov won 6-2, 6-0 against Dayton's
Bernardo Sanson.
The Flyers ended the season an improved 11-9 in dual matches. The 11 wins in coach
Ryan Meyer's third season are more than in the first two seasons combined. Dayton will graduate two seniors –
Aidan Koross and
Josh Malyon – from this year's team.
