DAYTON POWERS PAST BUTLER, 5-4 IN FINAL EXHIBITION

DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton Flyers men's soccer team defeated the Butler Bulldogs 5-4 in an exhibition match at Baujan Field on Saturday night, the final preseason game before the season.

STATS OF THE GAME
• Dayton had four goals on four shots on goal in the first half. The Flyers led despite being outshot 11-7 in the first 45 minutes.
• The last time Dayton scored five goals in a game was last year against IUPUI (W, 5-0) on September 19, 2014.
• Butler outshot Dayton 19-15 in the contest, but the Flyers put eight on target compared to the Bulldogs' seven.
• There were only 19 fouls committed in the game, half as many as in Dayton's first exhibition match against West Virginia.
 
DAYTON GOALS
• 4th Minute – Tommy Harr stole a pass at the top of the 18 yard box and his shot went in to the right side of the net
• 18th Minute – Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a header from a free kick. Assisted by Michael Frasca
• 23rd Minute – Carlos Sendin stole an attempted clear at the top of the 18 and buried his shot into the bottom left corner of the net
• 30th Minute – Carlos Sendin scored his second goal of the match on a corner kick. Assisted by Michael Frasca and Lalas Abubakar.
• 53rd Minute – Maik Schoonderwoerd converts penalty after Carlos Sendin was fouled in the box.

BUTLER GOALS
• 14th Minute – David Goldsmith found retrieved a ball that was not cleared by the Dayton defense and scored from six yards out.
• 45th Minute – David Goldsmith scored his second goal of the match on a cross played into the box. Assisted by Vincent Mitchell.
• 51st Minute – David Goldsmith finished the hat trick with a penalty kick conversion.
• 62nd Minute – Jeff Adkins finished off a counterattack from Butler's own penalty area, finishing with a shot to the right of the Dayton goalkeeper on the assist by Vincent Mitchell.
 
COMING UP
• Dayton will start the regular season on the road at the James Madison Classic on Aug. 28 versus Radford and Aug. 30 against host James Madison.
• The home opener for the Flyers is on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. against Cleveland State. The first 300 fans will get a schedule poster.
