DAYTON TAKES ON OHIO STATE FRIDAY

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will travel up the road to Columbus, Ohio for a showdown with in-state foe Ohio State on Friday at 7 p.m at Jesse Owens Stadium.

SCOUTING DAYTON
Dayton is now 5-3-1 on the season and undefeated in the past three contests (2-0-1). The Flyers are 2-1-1 in true road contests with a 1-1 tie at No. 18 Western Michigan in their last outing. Head coach Dennis Currier is looking to pick up his fourth straight victory over the Buckeyes.

The Flyers are out-scoring opponents 2.33 goals per game compared to 1.11 goals allowed. Dayton is out-shooting opposing teams as well 14.9 to 11.6. As a team, the Flyers are combining for a .448 shots on goal percentage.

Senior Amass Amankona is one of top players, not only in the conference, but also in the nation, with six goals, three assists, 15 points, 13 shots on goal, and a .722 shots on goal percentage. Fellow senior Maik Schoonderwoerd has contributed four goals and a team-high four assists as well with junior James Haupt scoring three times this season. Goalkeeper Justin Saliba is coming off his third shutout of the season and has a 0.97 goals against  average to go with a .708 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
OHIO STATE

The Buckeyes are 1-4-2 on the year and 1-1-1 at home in 2015. Head coach John Bluem is in his 19th season at the helm of OSU and has 267 in his career.  The lone win for the Buckeyes this season came against Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 28.

As a team, Ohio State is averaging 1.00 goal per game and giving up 1.57 goals to opponents. The Buckeyes are being out-shot by opponents 11.7 to 11.6, but have an advantage in corners (45-29).

Five different Buckeyes have scored this season with senior Kyle Culbertson leading the way with a pair of goals, five points, and a game-winner. Seven different OSU players have recorded an assist as well. Senior goalkeeper and former Flyer stopper Chris Froschauer is averaging 1.48 goals allowed per game and has a .667 save percentage.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Buckeyes have met 46 times in the series history with OSU taking 22 meetings compared to Dayton's 18 victories. The last meeting was a 1-0 win for the Flyers on Sept. 27, 2014 at home.

LAST OUTING
Dayton had one of its most dominant performances in the Currier era with a 6-0 victory over Bowling Green on Wednesday. The Falcons had only given up six goals all season with the Flyers doubling that this week. The last six-goal outing for UD came back on Nov. 2, 2008 at Saint Joseph's. Schoonderwoerd (twice), Amankona, Michael Frasca, Kissima Bojang, and Anthony Keene were on the scoresheet.

Ohio State had a double-overtime draw at home against No. 13 Penn State on Sunday. The Buckeyes led early on with a score from Kenny Cunningham, but the Nittany Lions equalized in the second half.

LEADING THE WAY
The Flyers rank first in the Atlantic 10 in shots (14.62), points (5.38), goals (1.88), corners (6.38), and second in assists (1.62). Individually, junior Tommy Harr ranks second in shots with Schoonderwoerd close behind in third.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Dayton has scored 10 goals over its past two games, including a 6-0 win over Bowling Green in its last home contest on Sept. 23. The Flyers are 3-1 in games at Baujan Field as well, outscoring opponents 14-3 at home.

OFFENSIVE POWERHOUSE
The Flyers have been a force on the offensive side of the ball this season, ranking in the Top 10 in numerous statistical categories. Dayton currently leads Division I in total point with 61 on the season. The Flyers also rank third in goals (21) and ninth in scoring offense (2.33).

AMANKONA NAMED C0-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dayton fifth-year senior Amass Amankona was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 21 after totaling seven points on three goals and an assist during a two-game stretch for the Flyers.

Amankona now leads the A-10 in points (15), and goals (6), ranking ninth and eighth in the nation in those respective categories.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will remain on the road to open Atlantic 10 play with Duquesne on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa. The next home game will be on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. against Saint Joseph's.
