PITTSBURGH –
Charles Cooke scored 21 points to lead the Dayton Flyers to a 66-58 road victory over the Duquesne Dukes.
The win is Dayton's fourth in a row.
UD improved to 11-2 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10. Duquesne, 10-4 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, suffered its first home loss of the year.
Dyshawn Pierre added 10 rebounds off the bench and
Sam Miller scored a career-high nine points.
GAME BREAKDOWN- The Flyers led 25-20 at the half thanks in part to limiting the Dukes to 4-of-26 (15 percent) from the field.
- The Dukes regained the lead 33-32 early in the second half. However, the Flyers used an 11-4 run to regain the lead for good.
- After four straight free throws by Cooke, Duquesne cut the deficit to 60-56 with 38 seconds to go. Kyle Davis pushed the lead back to six with 30 seconds after two more made free throws.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS- Dayton's bench was key to the victory. Miller and Darrell Davis each scored nine points. The Flyers held a 25-12 advantage in bench points.
- Dayton started 0-for-16 from three-point range before Darrell Davis sank one before the end of the first half. UD finished 3-of-25 for the game.
- The Flyer defense was smothering, holding the Dukes to just 15 percent shooting from the field in the first half. It was the lowest field goal output in a first half this year against Dayton.
- The 20 points allowed were the second-fewest in a half by the Flyer defense.
- Dayton shot 15-of-17 from the free throw line in the second half.
- Cooke finished the game shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and made 9-of-10 free throws.
