#UDWBB OPENS A-10 WITH LOSS AT DUQUESNE

Flyers Fall to Dukes, 89-58, in Conference Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In its Atlantic 10 Conference opener, the University of Dayton women's basketball team dropped an 89-58 decision to Duquesne Sunday afternoon at AJ Palumbo Center. With the loss, Dayton falls to 7-5 on the season and 0-1 in league action while Duquesne improves to 13-1 overall and 1-0 in A-10 play.

GAME BREAKDOWN
• 1Q: Duquesne sank five consecutive baskets to open a 12-0 on Dayton in the first quarter. Senior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova scored first for the Flyers, kick-starting an 11-2 run to pull Dayton to within three, 14-11. The Dukes scored five more points before the end of the period to lead 19-11 heading to the second.
• 2Q: Cornelie-Sigmundova converted an old-fashioned three-point play with just under seven minutes remaining the in the first half to set the score at 25-17 in favor of Duquesne. The Dukes scored the last seven points of the second quarter and held a sizable 41-20 lead at the half.
• 3Q: Sophomore Jenna Burdette turned on her offensive jets for the Flyers in the third quarter, scoring 10 points, and junior Saicha Grant-Allen also chipped in five points. Despite scoring 21 points in the third, Dayton was still not able to get out from under the deficit and trailed Duquesne, 65-41, after three periods.
• 4Q: The highlight of the game came with just over seven minutes remaining as Cornelie-Sigmundova tallied her fifth block of the contest, effectively making her Dayton's new all-time career blocks leader. At the end of regulation, Duquesne recorded the 89-58 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Freshman Lauren Cannatelli led three Flyers in double-figures scoring with 16 points, just one off her career high. Burdette ended up with 14 points while dishing out five assists and swatting two steals.
• Also in double-figures was Cornelie-Sigmundova (11). She also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded five blocks.
• Grant-Allen also corralled seven rebounds to go with five points.
• Duquesne was led by april Robinson and Amadea Szamosi with 17 points each. Robinson recorded the triple-double with a game-high 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

KEY STATS
• Dayton got back on track at the line, making 14 of 16 free-throw attempts (87.5).
• Duquesne out-rebounded Dayton, 53-34.
• The Dukes shot a blistering 52.2 percent from the field, connecting on 35 of the 67 shots they took compared to the Flyers' 26.4 shooting percentage.

Dayton wraps up its three-game road swing with a trip to Richmond, Va., to take on the Richmond Spiders. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Richmond's Robins Center.
