DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will remain at home to host Saint Louis at 7 p.m. Saturday at Baujan Field. It will be the third Atlantic 10 contest for the Flyers this season.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the weekend with a 4-5-2 record overall and 1-0-1 A-10 mark. The Flyers have found much of their success at home, going 3-1-0 at Baujan this year. Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 12th season at the helm.
The Flyers are averaging 0.91 goals per game and allowing 1.27 goals to opponents. UD is out-shooting opposing squads 14.2 to 11.9 and have a 72-50 corner kick advantage.
UD is led by freshman
Rok Taneski, who has three goals and four assists, and sophomore
Kennedy Nwabia, who has three goals and an assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Federico Barrios is the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week with five starts and a 2-1-2 record under his belt.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis is in a four-way tie at the top of the A-10 standings with a 1-0 conference mark and a 2-4-3 record overall. Head coach Mike McGinty has guided the Billikens to wins over La Salle and Wake Forest this season.
As a team, the Billikens are averaging 0.67 goals per game and allowing 1.33 to opponents. SLU has just six goals through nine games and is being out-shot 15.6 to 6.4 shots per game.
Saint Louis is led by Max Karcher, who has two goals for four points. Anthony Brown and Grant Owens have both chipped in a goal and an assist each. Goalkeeper Sascha Otte has 12 saves and a 1.24 goals against average in his nine starts.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Saint Louis have met 20 times previously with the Billikens winning 15 of those contests. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Flyers defeated SLU in overtime, 3-2 on Oct. 7, 2015.
Carlos Sendin scored the game-winning goal in the 93rd minute, securing the victory for UD.
LAST OUTING
Dayton remained unbeaten in A-10 play with a 2-1 win over Fordham at home Wednesday. The Flyers got a pair of goals from Nwabia to clinch the victory.
Saint Louis picked up a 2-1 win over La Salle on the road last Saturday in the A-10 opener for the Billikens. Jair Hernandez scored the initial goal in the 24th minute before Max Karcher scored the game-winner via penalty kick in the 57th minute.
BARRIOS NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman goalkeeper
Federico Barrios was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3 after recording back-to-back shutouts for the Flyers. The Colombia native helped UD to a 1-0 over Liberty before playing all 110 minutes in a 0-0 draw with UMass.
A-10 HONORS
Dayton had a pair of student-athletes recognized by the Atlantic 10 on Sept. 6 with
Lalas Abubakar being named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week and
Rok Taneski being named A-10 Rookie of the Week. The two Flyers helped Dayton to wins over Saint Francis (3-0) and Belmont (2-1) that week.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Dayton was 6-2-1 at home in 2015, outscoring opponents 32-6 at Baujan Field. All time, the Flyers are 143-50-18 with a .720 winning percentage. This season, UD has continued that trait with a 3-1-0 record at home.
AMONGST THE BEST
UD ranks first in the Atlantic 10 in shots per game, and fifth in shutout percentage. Individually,
Rok Taneski leads the league in shots per game and shots on goal per game.
Saint Louis is fourth in the A-10 in save percentage and saves per game while being second in fewest cards accumulated. Goalkeeper Sascha Otte is fourth in the league in saves per game and save percentage as well.
