DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to VCU on Friday night in the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals.
The Flyers (8-9-3) fell to the Rams (8-9-3) in the rematch of the regular season finale in which UD was victorious in overtime 3-2 to clinch an A-10 berth.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- 27th Minute – Dayton 0, VCU 1 – VCU's Dakota Barnathan scored off a rebounded shot to put the Rams ahead midway through the first half.
KEY STATS
- The Flyers were out-shot in the contest 9-4 and put three on target.
- UD gave up eight shots to VCU in the first half, and held them to just one in the second half while dominating possession.
- Senior Michael Frasca led UD with two shots, both on goal, while sophomore Kennedy Nwabia and senior Rafael Gamboa added one on target.
- Goalkeeper Federico Barrios had two saves in his 14th start of the season.
