DAYTON CLOSES SEASON WITH WILD WIN AT MARIST

Flyers Score Most Points In 10 Seasons

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The University of Dayton football team exploded for 59 points and 530 yards Saturday, knocking off the Marist 59-31 on the Red Foxes Senior Day.  The yardage was Dayton's most in four years and the points were the most in 10 seasons.

UD finished the year 9-2, and 7-1 in the Pioneer Football League.  The Flyers will take a seven-game win streak into the 2017 season.

GAME SUMMARY
• Marist took the opening kickoff and drove 57 yards to opening the scoring with a 41-yard field goal by Mike Maccarone.
• Cameron Stubbs took the kickoff and returned it 94 yards to the five, and one play later, Alex Jeske ran it in from the five to give Dayton a lead it would keep for good.
• Willliam Will added a 38-yard field goal to make the score Dayton 10, Marist 3.
• A six-play, 56-yard drive capped by another Jeske five-yard run made it Dayton 17, Marist 3 after one quarter.
• Red Fox QB Mike White hit Christian Keenan on a 16-yard pass to cut it to Dayton 17, Marist 10.

• The Flyers answered with an 11-play, 75 yard journey.  Jeske ran it in from the three. Dayton 31, Marist 17 at halftime.
• On Marist's first series of the second half, Marcellus Calhoun scored on a one-yard run set up by a fourth-down pass interference call in the end zone. Dayton 31, Marist 24.

• Jared Ruffing scampered untouched from 11 yards out to make the score Dayton 45, Marist 24.
• Marist scored on a quarterback throwback pass to gain some momentum back.  Receiver Lawrence Dickens completed his second pass of the day, this one to White for a seven-yard TD. Dayton 45, Marist 31.
• The nature of the Marist TD fired up the crowd, and with still eleven-and-a-half minutes left you could sense the Red Foxes felt a comeback coming on.  Stubbs took care of that with a 90-yard kickoff touchdown return.  Dayton 52, Marist 31
• A Chris Hagan interception stopped Marist's last real threat on the next possession, and Jeske closed the scoring with four-yard run, making the final score Dayton 59, Marist 31.
