Peterson Led All Attackers with Career-High-Tying 16 Kills

PITTSBURGH - The University of Dayton volleyball team extended its run through the Atlantic 10 with a 3-1 (28-30, 25-18, 25-11, 25-19) win at Duquesne Friday night. Freshman Jamie Peterson led all attackers with a career-high-tying 16 kills for the Flyers.

Dayton improves to 25-1 on the season and 11-0 in A-10 action while Duquesne moves to 17-10 and 7-5 in league play.

STATS OF THE MATCH
• Peterson recorded her career-high-tying 16 kills in 30 attempts with only two errors for a .467 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks and two digs.
• Junior Amber Erhahon added 14 kills in 22 attempts with two errors for a .545 hitting percentage and she had five blocks. Also in double-digit kills was freshman Kendyll Brown with 11 to go with her match-high six blocks.
• Sophomore Margo Wolf was the team's leading passer with a career-high 36 digs. Narrowly missing the double-double was junior Jessica Sloan with nine kills and 12 digs.
• Duquesne was led by Madelyn Burnham with 14 kills and Sammy Kline with 25 digs. For the match, Dayton out-hit Duquesne, .221 to .118, and the Flyers recorded 58 kills to the Dukes' 44.

SET-BY-SET
• Set One: Set one was a battle from start to finish as Dayton start the match with a 3-1 lead. Duquesne answered putting together four-straight points to get in front, 6-4. Three-consecutive Flyer kills evened the set at eight points apiece and the frame was tied again at nine and 10. UD got up three, 14-11, following a kill from Sloan and the Flyer lead was five, 18-13, after an Erhahon kill. An Erhahon-Sloan block set up game point, 24-22, for Dayton but Duquesne wasn't going away. The two squads were tied five more times until the Dukes were able to score back-to-back point to take the set, 30-28.
• Set Two: Duquesne was up first in the second set, 4-1, but a 5-1 Dayton run set the score at 9-8 in favor of the Flyers. Tied at 10-10, UD rattled off six points, including three kills by Peterson, to break open a 16-10 advantage. A Brown-Peterson block gave Dayton a six-point, 22-16 lead and the Flyers reached set point at 24-17 on another assisted block. Duquesne held once but Dayton ended the set ahead, 25-18, to even the match at 1-1.
• Set Three: The Dukes scored the first point of set three but it was all Flyers from there on out. A Duquesne attack error capped off an 8-1 Dayton run, giving UD the 10-3 advantage. The lead was 10 at 16-6 after three service aces by junior Jane Emmenecker and 10 again at 19-9 following consecutive Sloan kills. The last Duke point was scored at 20-11 as the Flyers closed out the set with a 5-0 run to win, 25-11.
• Set Four: A service ace from Wolf set the score at 5-2 for Dayton to open the fourth set. Sloan recorded a solo block to push UD in front by four at 7-3 and the Flyer advantage was five at 11-6 when Brown and Emmenecker teamed up for a block. Consecutive assisted blocks by the Flyers gave Dayton the 15-7 lead and UD was up nine after a service ace by Sloan. Dayton got stuck at 23 as Duquesne scored three unanswered but match point came at 24-17 on a kill from Peterson. The Dukes held twice but then hit it out on their next serve to end the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.

UP NEXT
Dayton continues its Pennsylvania trip with a Sunday matinee at La Salle. The Flyers and Explorers are set to get underway at 1 p.m. at Tom Gola Arena on Nov. 6.
