DAYTON DEFEATS GRAND VALLEY STATE IN EXHIBITION, 74-48

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated Grand Valley State University Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game, 74-48.

The Flyers and Grand Valley State squared off in the first action of the season for either team with Dayton defending its home court.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter:
• The Flyers hit the boards hard and corralled five offensive rebounds.
• Dayton started on an 11-0 run, led by Kelley Austria and Lauren Cannatelli with five points each.
• The first field goal for GVSU came at the two minute mark.
• The Flyers shot 57% (4-of-7) from the three-point line.
 
2nd Quarter:
• Dayton went on a 12-1 run over a four minute period.
• The Flyers forced three turnovers in this quarter.
• Dayton led at the end of the half, 36-18.
 
3rd Quarter:
• The Flyers shots 53% from the field.
• Alex Harris had five points and two rebounds.
• Taylor Lutz had eight points and two rebounds for GVSU.
 
4th Quarter:
• Dayton went on a 6-0 run with four minutes left.
• Every Flyer available to play on Sunday saw time in the game, including all four freshmen.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• The Dayton bench contributed 23 of the 36 first half points.
• The Flyers had 18 offensive rebounds, twice the amount of GVSU's nine offensive boards.
• Dayton's bench contributed 38 points, while GVSU's bench contributed 25.
• Dayton led for 38 minutes of the game. The other two minutes were tied at the beginning of the game, 0-0.
• 15 of Dayton's 29 were assisted on.
• Lindsey Baker led GVSU with 11 points.
Jayla Scaife led the Flyers with 12 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Scaife shot 5-11 from the field, including 100% (3-3) from three-point range.
