DAYTON RETURNS HOME TO HOST WINTRHOP

DAYTON RETURNS HOME TO HOST WINTHROP
  • Back for three straight home games, the University of Dayton Flyers host the Winthrop Eagles on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
  • The game will be carried by FOX Sports Ohio and is available with live streaming video, audio and stats at DaytonFlyers.com.

ABOUT WINTHROP
  • The Winthrop Eagles, 4-2 overall, were unanimously chosen as the favorite in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll.
  • Winthrop, last year's co-regular-season champion, returned three starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's 23-win squad.
  • Senior guard Keon Johnson last season was  a First Team All-Big South selection and came in second for Big South Player of the Year voting.

SERIES STUFF
  • Dayton leads the series 3-0.
  • The last time the two programs met was on Jan. 1, 2014 when the Flyers won 81-47.

SURGING SOPHOMORES
  • The active sophomore class of Xeyrius Williams, Sam Miller, Ryan Mikesell and John Crosby continue to make rapid strides.
  • In the first three games of the season, the group of four combined to average 4.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and shoot 5 of 24 from beyond the arc (.208) and 18 of 56 (.321) from the floor.
  • At the Wooden Legacy in three contests, that foursome averaged 7.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and shot 12 of 15 (.480) from three and was 30 of 68 (.441) on field goals.
  • Josh Cunningham, who is out until March, would have added to that group in the two games he played this season, averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, while making 10 of 12 field goals.

SUPERIOR SENIORS
  • The senior class of Kyle Davis, Scoochie Smith and Kendall Pollard are on pace to be the winningest class in UD history.
  • The trio has 82 victories in their first 112 games, one win ahead of the pace of the Class of 2011 (Chris Wright, Devin Searcy, Peter Zesterman and Logan Nourse).
  • The Class of 2011 finished with 97 wins.

#TRENDING
  • Dayton is 7-0 all-time against Big South opponents.
  • Charles Cooke and Scoochie Smith are the only Flyers to have scored in double figures in every game this season.
  • Scoochie Smith has made 10 consecutive free throws in the last five games.
  • The Flyers have won 12 of their last 14 when Kyle Davis scores in double figures.
  • In Kyle's case, he scored 14 points in first four games, 14 alone in the fifth and 12 more in the sixth.
  • After not scoring in double figures in his first 29 games at UD, Xeyrius Williams has achieved that feat in two of the last three contests.
  • For Williams, he was averaging 0.7 ppg going into Wooden and averaged 12.7 during the tournament.
  • The Flyers are 35-1 when limiting opponents to 60 points or less in the last five seasons.
  • UD has won 27 straight games scoring 80-plus points.
