CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Dayton softball team took another split at the Chattanooga Spring Classic on Saturday afternoon, defeating IPFW 8-1 in the day's first contest but falling to Wright State 5-2 in the nightcap.

Katie Ryan doubled home pinch-runner
Aspyn Novak to give UD the first run of the day and give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Bottom 1st –
Kailee Budicin made it back-to-back doubles with a shot down the right field line to bring home Ryan and give Dayton the 2-0 advantage.
Bottom 3rd –
Kathryn Hess gave the Flyers a 3-0 lead with a solo homer to lead off the inning.
Top 4th – The lone IPFW run of the game came on a fielder's choice after three straight singles. The run temporarily brought the score within two runs at 3-1.
Bottom 5th – In her next at-bat, Hess once again connected for a solo homer to start the inning. The senior's second round-tripper of the day gave UD a 4-1 lead.
Bottom 5th –
Kailee Budicin notched another RBI double, giving Dayton a 5-1 advantage as
Kirsten Bartlett scored from first on the play.
Bottom 5th – Pinch-runner
Kelly Fitzgerald came around on a sacrifice fly by
Manda Cash to spread the advantage to 6-1.
Bottom 5th – The scoring capped off in the inning when
Krista Gustafson came home to score on the second error in the inning by the Mastodons, making it 7-1 Flyers.
Bottom 6th – Budicin picked up her third RBI of the game when her fly ball scored
Aspyn Novak from third on the sacrifice fly, bringing the score to its final of 8-1.
Key StatsKathryn Hess finished the day's opener 2-for-2 with her first two home runs of the season, two runs scored and two RBI.
Kailee Budicin also finished with two hits, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Manda Cash picked up her first win of the season, going five innings and allowing one earned run while striking out four.
Game Two – Wright StateScoring BreakdownBottom 1st –
Gabrielle Snyder came around to score the first run of the game on a
Katie Ryan single into centerfield, giving UD a 1-0 lead.
Top 2nd – The Raiders came right back with a home run to tie the score, 1-1.
Bottom 3rd –
Kathryn Hess continued her fine day at the plate, doubling home Snyder to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
Top 4th – Station-to-station play got the Raiders a pair of runs in the fourth, taking advantage of two walks and collecting four singles and making the score 3-2.
Top 5th – Wright State would come back with two more in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly and a triple, bringing the game to its final score of 5-2.
Key StatsGabrielle Snyder batted leadoff and responded well, going 3-for-3 and scoring two runs.
No one else in the lineup managed a multi-hit performance, but the Flyers got single hits from Hess, Ryan,
Kayla Haberstich,
Krista Gustafson and
Kennedy Haynes.
