TROY, Ala. – For the second consecutive day, the University of Dayton softball team split its day at the Trojan Warrior Tournament, defeating Austin Peay 1-0 and falling to host Troy 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Game One – Austin PeayScoring BreakdownBottom 5th – The game's lone run came off the bat of
Gabrielle Snyder, who lined a double to right field to score
Kirsten Bartlett and give the Dayton a 1-0 lead.
Key StatsSnyder finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in the lone run with her second double of the season, while also picking up the win in the circle. She tossed six and one-third innings and scattered four hits.
Manda Cash picked up her first save of the season, striking out the final two batters of the game.
Game Two – TroyScoring BreakdownTop 1st –
Kailee Budicin picked up a key two-out RBI by driving home
Gabrielle Snyder to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Top 3rd –
Aspyn Novak started the inning by reaching via error and
Katelyn Gibson followed with a bunt single. After
Kathryn Hess advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt,
Jaclyn Kweder drove Novak home to put Dayton ahead 2-0.
Bottom 6th – After being held hitless by
Jessica Gilliam for the first five innings, the Trojans broke through with a two-run double that tied the score, 2-2.
Bottom 6th – With two outs, Troy got a clutch single to right-center field that scored the go-ahead run and gave the hosts a 3-2 lead.
Key StatsBudicin finished the game with two hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Gilliam allowed just two hits on the afternoon while striking out three.
Gibson finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored.
