FLYERS TAKE DOWN RAMS, 67-53, AT URI'S RYAN CENTER

Grant-Allen Grabs Career-High 18 Rebounds on Way to Fifth Double-Double

KINGSTON, R.I. - Behind the strength of 21 points from freshman Lauren Cannatelli and a career-high 18 rebounds from junior Saicha Grant-Allen, the University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated Rhode Island, 67-53, Sunday afternoon at URI's Ryan Center. With the win, Dayton improves to 12-9 overall and 5-5 in Atlantic 10 action while Rhode Island falls to 11-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.

GAME BREAKDOWN
• 1Q: Leading by just two, 5-3, after a minute of play the Flyers' senior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova rattled off six-consecutive points to set the score at 11-3. Each team made one more three-point basket in the quarter and Dayton held on to an eight-point, 14-6, lead after one period of play.
• 2Q: The Rams and Flyers traded three-pointers to open the second and URI was able to cut the UD lead to two, 19-17, after a quick 6-0 spurt. But, Dayton closed out the second quarter with a 14-3 run to stretch its lead to 13, 33-20, heading into the locker room.
• 3Q: URI's Samantha Tabakman put back a layup with just over six minutes to play in the third to cut the UD advantage to seven, 39-32. A layup from junior Andrijana Cvitkovic pushed Dayton back ahead 13, 45-32, and the Flyers were ahead 11, 51-40, at the end of the frame after Cannatelli converted a three-point play.
• 4Q: Sophomore JaVonna Layfield gave the Flyers their largest lead of the game at 17, 63-46, after sinking two free throws with just over three minutes to play. Rhode Island continued to fight, hitting consecutive three-point baskets but Dayton's lead was insurmountable. The Flyers claimed a 14-point, 67-53 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Cannatelli made six of her 10 three-point attempts on the way to 21 points to lead all scorers.She also grabbed four rebounds and tallied a steal.
• Grant-Allen went 4-for-8 on her way to 10 points to go with a career-high 18 rebounds (5o-13d).
• Sophomore Jenna Burdette also scored in double figures with 13 points while dishing out five assists and grabbing eight boards. Senior Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova added 10 points and seven rebounds.
• Rhode Island was led by Dominique Ward with 16 points and Tayra Melendez with seven rebounds.

KEY STATS
• Dayton out-rebounded Rhode Island, 56-33, including 18-13 on the offensive glass.
• The Flyers made 78.6 percent of their free throws (11-for-14) while the Rams made 50 percent of shots from the line (4-for-8).
