BROOKLYN – The top-seeded Dayton Flyers picked up a 69-54 win over the ninth-seeded Richmond Spiders in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship.
Dyshawn Pierre registered a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Charles Cooke poured in 14 points and eight rebounds and
Kyle Davis scored 11.
Dayton improved to 25-6 overall and has won three straight.
GAME BREAKDOWN- Dayton led 33-20 at the half thanks to a dominating defense. The Flyers forced eight first half turnovers and limited the Spiders to 28 percent from the field.
- UD extended the lead to 42-22 after a Cooke dunk with 16:56 to play.
- The Flyers kept the advantage throughout the second half eventually extending the lead to 54-31 with nine minutes to play.
- The lead grew to 62-37 with 5:15 to play and the Flyers were able to maintain control the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS- Ten different Flyers scored as UD shot 44 percent from the field and was 18-of-25 at the free throw line.
- Steve McElvene tied the Flyer single-season record after he blocked three shots against Richmond. McElvene shares the record of 53 blocks with Chris Wright.
- Dayton is 9-0 this year holding opponents to 60 points or less.
- Pierre recorded his sixth double-double of the season and fifth in his last seven games.
- Dayton is now 10-1 this season when Kyle Davis scores in double figures.
- The Flyers also improved to 12-0 with a full roster available.
- Another good statistic, UD improved to 14-1 this year when both Kendall Pollard and Pierre play.
- Dayton improved to 5-4 all-time under coach Archie Miller in the A-10 Championship.
