DAYTON FALLS TO SAINT JOSEPH’S, 82-79, IN THE A-10 SEMIS








BROOKLYN, N.Y.Scoochie Smith recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 assists, but it wasn't enough as the Dayton Flyers fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks 82-79 in the semifinals of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship.

Dyshawn Pierre scored 22 points, Charles Cooke added 13 points and six rebounds, while Kendall Pollard had 11 points.

Dayton dropped to 25-7 overall.

GAME BREAKDOWN
  • The Flyers trailed 37-30 at the half with the Hawks closing out on a 12-0 run.
  • Saint Joseph's kept the pressure on Dayton and extended the lead to 53-42 with 11:31 to play.
  • Dayton cut the deficit to 58-55 with 6:40 remaining, but the Hawks countered a pair of threes to push the advantage back to nine.
  • That would be the closest the Flyers would come to rallying as the Hawks advance to the A-10 title game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Saint Joseph's shot 22-of-25 at the free throw line. Dayton was 13-of-18.
  • Dayton trailed at the half for the seventh time in the previous eight games.
  • McElvene broke Chris Wright's single-season blocks record. He now has 56 on the season.
  • Smith scored in double figures for the ninth time in the last 11 contests.
  • The last Flyer to record a double-double in points and assists was Kevin Dillard against UAB on Jan. 5, 2013.
  • Dayton is 21-3 this season when three or more players score in double figures. Two of those losses came against Saint Joseph's.
  • The Flyers are now 5-5 in Archie Miller's tenure in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
