DAYTON FACES SYRACUSE IN THE NCAA FIRST ROUND











NO. 7 SEED DAYTON FACES NO. 10 SEED SYRACUSE IN THE NCAA FIRST ROUND
• The University of Dayton Flyers will face the Syracuse Orange in the first round of the Midwest Region on Friday at 12:15 p.m. ET.
• The game will be televised on CBS, carried by WHIO Radio and is available with live video, stats and streaming audio at DaytonFlyers.com.

ABOUT SYRACUSE
• The Syracuse Orange, 19-13 overall and 9-9 ACC, enter the tournament as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest Region.
• The Orange are led by All-ACC Second Team honoree Michael Gbinije (17.8 points per game).
• Malachi Richardson (13.2 ppg), Trevor Cooney (12.8 ppg) and Tyler Lydon (10.1 ppg) are also averaging better than 10 points per contest.

SERIES STUFF
• Dayton leads the all-time series 2-1.
• The last time the two programs met was also in the NCAA Tournament. Dayton defeated Syracuse 55-53 in Buffalo on March 22, 2014.

BIG DANCE BITES
• Dayton has won five NCAA Tournament games the previous two years, one of six schools (Kentucky, Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan State and UConn) to accomplish that feat.
• In 2014, the Flyers advanced to the Elite Eight after defeating Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford.
• Coach Archie Miller is 5-2 in the NCAA's.
• Miller is one of five coaches with at least five NCAA wins in his first four seasons. The others are Mark Few, Thad Matta, Shaka Smart and Roy Williams.
• The Flyers advanced to the Regional Semifinal seven times, the Regional Final three times, and finished as the National Runner-Up in 1967.

• Dayton won the A-10 regular season championship for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
• UD is 12-1 this season with a full roster.
• The Flyers are also 10-0 this year scoring 80 or more points.
• Dayton is 8-2 in games decided by three points or less.
• The Flyers are 14-2 this year when both Kendall Pollard and Dyshawn Pierre play.
• Dayton is 10-1 this year when Kyle Davis scores in double figures.

Steve McElvene set UD's single-season record for blocks at 55, passing Chris Wright.
• The Flyers are 34-1 when limiting opponents to 60 points or less in the last three seasons, including an 9-0 mark this year.
• Dayton is 21-3 when three or more players score in double figures. Two of those losses were against Saint Joseph's.
• In the first half, Dayton is shooting .424 (384-906) from the field, but in the second half their marksmanship improves to .497 (427-859).

CONQUERING GOLIATH
• UD has been powerful against the power conferences. Dayton is 30-11 in the last nine years against the power five programs.
• The Flyers are 4-0 in 2015-16 against power five schools after wins over No. 21/16 Vanderbilt, Alabama, Arkansas and Iowa.
• Dayton's 30 victories have come against Ole Miss (five times), Alabama and Georgia Tech (three times), Boston College and Auburn (twice), Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Stanford, Syracuse, Ohio State, California, North Carolina, Minnesota, Illinois, Louisville, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Iowa and Pittsburgh.
• The Flyers have won the last eight against the ACC and 13 of the last 16 versus the SEC.

UP NEXT
• If Dayton were to advance, the Flyers would play the winner of the Michigan State-Middle Tennessee State game on Sunday, March 20.
