Box Score DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team dropped a tight contest to Atlantic 10 foe Davidson on Thursday evening, falling 4-3 at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The match started with the Flyers winning the doubles point in dramatic fashion. No. 2 pairing
Jordan Benjamin and
Lorenzo Rollhauser took a 6-3 win, while the Wildcats won at No. 1 6-2.
Bernardo Sanson and
Andy Druffel teamed up to down the Davidson No. 3 pairing 7-6 and give UD the early lead.
Unfortunately for the Flyers the singles side didn't go their way. Benjamin picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, and Sanson took a hard fought win at No. 4 with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory, but that would be all UD could muster.
Dayton's loss is the first of the season in conference play, making them 4-1 in the A-10 and 12-5 overall. Today was also the Flyers first match played outdoors in the spring season.
UP NEXTUD returns to action on Friday, April 1 when they welcome No. 56 ranked Iowa to Dayton for an 11 a.m. matchup at Five Seasons Sports Park. The Flyers wrap up the weekend with their final Atlantic 10 match of the regular season with St. Bonaventure coming to town for a 3 p.m. match.
