FLYERS WIN HOME OPENER, 11-8

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team picked up a hard-fought 11-8 win over Miami University on Tuesday in the first game at Woerner Field this season.

The Flyers (2-8) kept their winning streak alive against the RedHawks (5-5) at home.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Bottom of 1st – Dayton's Matt Poland drew a bases loaded walk, plating the initial run, before an RBI single to right by Nick Gobert doubled the Flyer lead. A sacrifice fly by Nick Ryan gave UD a strong lead early on. Dayton 3, Miami 0
  • Top of 2nd – Miami got a three-run home run to tie the game up at 3-3. Dayton 3, Miami 3
  • Bottom of 2ndNick Weybright ripped a two-run blast to right, putting the Flyers back on top. Dayton 5, Miami 3

  • Dayton scored a season-high 11 runs on 11 hits in the contest.
  • The Flyers answered in the bottom half of each inning that the RedHawks scored.
  • Leading the way for UD was Doring, Weybright, and Huesman, who all drove in a pair of runs. Huesman went 3-for-5 in the contest while Doring homered and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Four different Flyers had multi-hit games.
  • Dayton's Austin Cline (W, 1-0) made his first collegiate start and went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four.
  • Reliever Jason Johnson pitched 2/3 of an inning before making way for Mason Kutruff.
  • Masashi Sakamoto (S,1) came on in the eighth and ninth, blanking the RedHawks and earning his first save as a Flyer. He pitched 1 1/3 innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
