Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 5 seeded University of Dayton men's tennis team upended No. 4 seed Davidson College on Friday morning, coming back to defeat the Wildcats 4-2 at Boar's Head Tennis Club.
With the victory, Dayton advances to the Atlantic 10 semi-final and takes on No. 1 seeded VCU. The match begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Davidson jumped out early by taking the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 3, but Dayton battled back with quick wins by freshmen
Jordan Benjamin and
Lorenzo Rollhauser at No. 1 and 6 singles respectively. Benjamin won by scores of 6-4 and 6-1, while Rollhauser rolled with 6-2, 6-2 wins.
After taking a 2-1 lead, UD took a step closer to victory when sophomore
Carsten Fisher took the No. 2 singles match 7-6 (3), 6-2. After Davidson inched closer with a win at No. 5 singles, junior
Bernardo Sanson wrapped the victory up for the Flyers with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4.
The trip to the A-10 semi-final match is the first since 2006 for the Flyers.
