Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team reached the end of its postseason run on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 1 seeded VCU 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 Championships semifinal match at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Dayton fell after a valiant effort in the doubles match, as
Zach Berry and
Carsten Fisher won 6-4 at No. 1, but the Rams took the No. 3 matchup 6-3 and squeaked out a 7-6 (1) victory at No. 2.
VCU kept rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, then pulled out the win at No. 1 6-2, 6-4. The match wrapped up when the Rams took No. 4 by a 6-2, 7-5 final.
Carsten Fisher and
Zach Berry were both leading their matches at the time of completion, but it made no difference for the Flyers, as their season officially ends.
The Flyers finish the season 16-8, the program's highest win total since the 2005 season.
