DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team locked in two good games on Wednesday afternoon, splitting its double header with Ohio University with a 1-0 win and a 9-4 loss at UD Softball Stadium.
GAME ONE – DAYTON 1 OHIO 0Scoring BreakdownBottom 3rd – Senior
Krista Gustafson pushed across the lone run of the game with a bases-loaded, infield single that plated freshman
Aspyn Novak and gave the Flyers the 1-0 advantage.
Key StatsGustafson finished the ballgame 2-for-3, also notching her fifth double of the season.
Junior
Gabrielle Snyder pushed her record to 7-1 on the season with six shutout innings in which she allowed just two hits and struck out three.
Sophomore
Manda Cash picked up her fourth save of the campaign with a perfect seventh inning of work. The Southpaw struck out two in the frame.
GAME TWO – OHIO 9 DAYTON 4Scoring BreakdownTop 1st – The Bobcats started off the scoring with a two run frame, taking advantage of a Flyer error and take an early 2-0 lead.
Bottom 2nd – Dayton cut the lead in half when junior
Hannah DeSalvo worked a bases-loaded walk to score freshman
Kyle Davidson and make the score 2-1.
Bottom 3rd – UD took the lead with a pair of runs coming in to score on a OU error, giving them a brief 3-2 advantage.
Top 5th – Ohio once again capitalized on timely Dayton errors, getting a bases-loaded single that cleared the bases with two outs in the inning. Three of four runs in the inning were unearned, and the Bobcats opened up a 6-3 lead.
Bottom 5th – Senior
Krista Gustafson brought the game a run closer with her first home run of the season, making it a 6-4 game.
Top 6th – The Bobcats came back with two more runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a single from the seventh hitter that brought home two and made the score 8-4.
Top 7th – OU utilized the speed game in the final frame, getting a single, two stolen bases, and then another single to bring the game to its final score of 9-4.
Key StatsThe game duration of 2:50 was the longest seven inning game since March 16, 2013 against Bowling Green.
Gustafson and Davidson each had two hits and scored a run in the nightcap for the Flyers.
The home run for Gustafson was the second of her career. Her first came as a freshman against Akron on April 24, 2013.
Dayton and Ohio combined for 13 walks in the ballgame, setting a new high for the Flyers this season.
