DAYTON DEFENDS UD ARENA IN 50-48 WIN OVER GW

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Women's Basketball team defeated the George Washington Colonials, 50-48, in a tight matchup Sunday afternoon at UD Arena.  Redshirt senior Kelley Austria led the Flyers with 19 points to lead Dayton to its third straight win.

The Flyers are now 9-7 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.  The Colonials drop to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic 10.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter – Dayton 18, GW 12
  • The Flyers dominated the paint, outscoring George Washington 18-4.
  • Dayton assisted on 6-of-9 field goals.
  • The Flyers' urgency on offense helped them to score six fast break points, compared to George Washington's zero.
  • Senior Saicha Grant-Allen led the Flyers in scoring with six points to go with three rebounds.
2nd Quarter – Dayton 29, GW 29
  • Both teams struggled shooting from the field, with Dayton shooting 29% (4-for-14) and George Washington shooting 36% (5-for-14).
  • The Colonials' bench outscored the Flyers', 14-2.

  • George Washington got off to a fast start, but Dayton took back the lead, 40-38.
4th Quarter – Dayton 50, GW 48
  • Austria's three-pointer at the two minute mark gave Dayton the lead, 49-48.
  • Dayton made just one of its last nine field goals.
  • The Flyers' five offensive rebounds helped them to control the clock near the end of the game.
  • George Washington had a scoring drought of 3:25 to end the game, while Dayton went on a 6-0 run in the last two minutes.
