Women's Soccer On The Road For Two Key A-10 Matches

Flyers Play At Second-Place Saint Louis Thursday; At Saint Joseph's Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (7-5-1, 2-1-1 A-10) continues Atlantic 10 action this week with road matches at second-place Saint Louis (11-1-1, 3-1-0 A-10) Thursday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET at Hermann Stadium. Dayton is currently tied for fifth in the A-10 standings.

The Flyers play at Saint Joseph's (6-4-2, 1-2-1 A-10) Sunday, Oct. 8 at Sweeney Field in Philadelphia. The Hawks are currently tied for 10th in the A-10 standings.
 
THE SERIES
• Dayton is 10-2-2 all-time vs. Saint Louis. Last season the Flyers played the Billikens twice. The first meeting was a 1-1 draw at Baujan Field on Sept. 29.  Caroline Mink scored UD's lone goal in that match. The two teams faced off again in the first round of the A-10 Championship with Dayton coming away with a 3-0 win on Nov. 3. Alexis Kiehl, Libby Leedom and Beth Kamphaus scored in that Flyer victory.  Dayton is 3-0 when playing Saint Louis on the road, with all three decisions being 1-0 results (Oct. 26, 2008; Oct. 7, 2012; and Oct. 1, 2015).
• Dayton is 16-2-1 all-time against Saint Joseph's. The last time the two teams met was in the 2016 A-10 Championship final on Nov. 6 in Kingston, R.I. The Flyers won the match 7-0. Libby Leedom had three goals, Alexis Kiehl scored two goals, and Micayla Livingston and Beth Kamphaus each notched a goal. The last time UD played at Saint Joseph's the Flyers fell 3-1 on Oct. 10, 2014.  Dayton is 6-1-1 all-time when playing SJU on the road.

FLYER QUICK HITS
• Seven different Flyers have scored so far this season: Alexis Kiehl (6 goals - tied for first in the A-10), Micayla Livingston (5 goals), Sara Robertson (4 goals), Sidney LeRoy, Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, and Jordan Pauley have scored one goal each.
Kaelyn Johns has started every game in goal and has 68 saves and seven shutouts this season. Her seven shutouts lead the A-10.
Nadia Pestell and Keagin Collie are tied for fifth in the A-10 in assists with four.
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his first season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011.

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
• Saint Louis is 11-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play. SLU's lone conference loss was a 2-1 setback at Duquesne on Sept. 24. Prior to that loss, the Billikens were receiving votes in the national poll. Saint Louis also notched a 1-1 tie to then-ranked No. 19 Kansas at home on Sept. 8.
• Maddie Pokorny leads SLU with six goals (tied for first in the A-10). She is tied for the team lead in points (14 - also tied for first in the A-10) with Alyssa Seitzer who leads the team in assists with six (tied for first in the A-10) and also has scored four goals. Olivia Petit has notched five goals and two assists for 12 points. Evie Lavelle has three goals and five assists for 11 points.
• Reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week Mary Niehaus has seven shutouts this season and 38 saves in goal.

SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
• Saint Joseph's is 6-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
• The Hawks are 2-1-2 in home matches this season.
• Gabrielle Vagnozzi leads SJU in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points (tied for ninth in the A-10). Morgan Bower and Hannah Racis both have scored four goals and dished two assists for 10 points.
• Grace Bendon has played every minute in goal for the Hawks, has notched 63 saves and posted three shutouts.

PHILLY HOMECOMING
• Junior goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns is from Downingtown, Pa., located just outside Philadelphia. She attended Downingtown East High School and played club for Penn Fusion Soccer Academy.

UP NEXT
• Dayton's next home match is Thursday, Oct. 12 vs. Duquesne. It is Dayton's pink match in support of Pink Ribbon Girls for breast cancer awareness. The team will wear pink jerseys which will be auctioned off at the match. The first 100 fans will receive a Dayton pink T-shirt. There will also be thunder sticks for all fans.

JOHNS EARNS A-10 HONORS AGAIN
Kaelyn Johns has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 25. She also earned A-10 Defensive honors the week before.
• Johns posted back-to-back shutouts, moving her streak to four consecutive shutouts.
• Johns posted a career-high 10 saves in UD's 0-0 double overtime tie at VCU, good for second all-time at UD in a single match. VCU is currently the third-leading team in the A-10 with 18 goals this season.
• She backed that up with an eight-save, 2-0 shutout performance in Dayton's A-10 conference home opener against George Mason.

JOHNS NAMED TO TDS NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Kaelyn Johns was also named to the TopDrawer Soccer National Team of the Week for her back-to-back shutout performances against VCU and George Mason.

ALEXIS KEIHL NAMED A SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE
• University of Dayton's Alexis Kiehl was one of 30 NCAA® women's soccer student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award®, honoring those who excel both on and off the field.
• Kiehl is the only player from the Atlantic 10 selected to the women's Top 30. James Haupt, a senior on the men's soccer team, was also selected to the men's Top 30. Dayton is one of five universities to have a candidate on the men's and women's side. The other four are Army, Siena, South Carolina and Stanford.

MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH
Alexis Kiehl was among the 30 women selected by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
• She is the only representative from the Atlantic 10 on the list of standout student-athletes.
• Kiehl, a forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, is coming off a phenomenal season. She led the Flyers with 21 goals and six assists for a total of 48 points.
• Her 21 goals tied for first in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer in 2016. It's also the fourth-best, single-season effort in UD women's soccer history.
• She was a 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-East Region First Team and a 2016 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team selection.
