DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will head north to the University of Toledo for a 7 p.m. contest Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Savage Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers enter the week with an undefeated record of 4-0 and will play their first true road contest of the season after playing two games at home and two neutral games.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her second season at the helm of the Flyers after going 22-10 in her first campaign last year. The WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year returns an experienced squad with three seniors, six juniors, and three starters.
As a team, Dayton is outscoring opponents at a +15.8 scoring margin and benefits from a +13.5 rebounding margin. The Flyers are shooting 41.6 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from three point range, and 71.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Flyers are led by sophomore
Jayla Scaife, who is scoring 14.8 points and grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game, and senior
Jenna Burdette, who averages 14.0 points and 3.3 assists per game. Senior
JaVonna Layfield is averaging a double-double as well with 11.8 points and 12.8 rebounds each contest.
SCOUTING TOLEDO
Toledo will host Dayton for its second home game of the season as the Rockets enter the game with a 2-1 record overall. The lone loss for the Rockets came at the hands of No. 5 Louisville on the road. Head coach Tricia Cullop is in her 10th season in charge of UT.
Overall, the Rockets are scoring 69.3 points per game and giving up 70.3 to opponents. Toledo is shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from behind the arc, and 61.9 percent from the charity stripe. UT faces a -7.0 rebounding margin, but does have a positive turnover margin at +2.3.
Leading the way for Toledo is Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, who is averaging 15.0 points per game and shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range. Kaayla McIntyre is chipping in 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while Olivia Cunningham is coming off a career night, averaging 12.0 points each contest.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton used its stifling defense to pick up a 61-46 win over Virginia at home Sunday. The Flyers had a 18-5 fastbreak points advantage and outrebounded the Cavaliers 55-35 in the win.
Toledo picked up its second win of the season with a 79-55 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at home. Olivia Cunningham scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting while the Rockets shot 52.6 percent from the floor.
THE SERIES
The Flyers and Rockets have played 23 times previously with Dayton winning 13 times and Toledo winning 10 times. The last meeting took place on Dec. 9 last year with the Rockets coming into Dayton and earning a 76-72 win over the Flyers.
