MACON, Ga. - The University of Dayton softball team closed out its weekend at the Mercer Invitational with a 9-1 (6) win over Portland State Sunday afternoon. Senior
Gabrielle Snyder's double in the first inning tied the Dayton career doubles record with 43.
Dayton improves to 3-2 on the season while Portland State fell to 0-5 for the year.

Aspyn Novak on base after being walked, Snyder brought her home with a double to get the scoring started for Dayton in the first inning. The Flyers then put up two runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth and six innings while allowing only one Viking run. Snyder led off the third with a single and stole second but sophomore
Kyle Davidson knocked out her second home run of the weekend to give UD the 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Novak and senior
Hannah DeSalvo were plated on a Snyder single and the Flyers were in front, 5-0. Freshman
Julia Blarr got her first collegiate hit in the fifth, a double that brought across freshmen
Ellie Ziegler and
Katherine Schwartz but the Vikings were able to get one back in the bottom of the frame to set the score at 7-1. It was DeSalvo's turned to collect two RBI in the sixth as her double plated junior
Jaclyn Kweder and sophomore
Lisa Tassi. Portland State failed to score in the bottom of the six so the game ended with Dayton in front, 9-1.

UP NEXT
Dayton will continue its pre-conference tournament schedule next weekend with another trek to Georgia. The Flyers will participate in the Georgia Classic Feb. 17-18 and UD will be squaring off against LMU, Northern Kentucky and host Georgia.
