SOFTBALL TAKES TWO ON FIRST DAY OF GEORGIA CLASSIC

Dayton Defeats ULM, 1-0, and Northern Kentucky, 11-8

ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Dayton softball team opened play at the 14th Annual Georgia Classic with two wins Friday. UD got past ULM, 1-0, and defeated NKU, 11-8, in come-from-behind fashion.

Dayton improves to 5-2 on the young season while ULM moves to 5-2 and Northern Kentucky is 0-1.

KEY STATS
44 - senior Gabrielle Snyder set the new Dayton career doubles record with her two-base hit in the fourth inning of the first game
.571 - junior Kayla Haberstich went 4-for-7 with two doubles and two runs scored on the day
0.00 - junior Manda Cash and freshman Jessica Weaver combined for seven scoreless innings for the Flyers
6 - the Flyers scored six runs in the sixth inning against Northern Kentucky to come from behind and take the lead

Dayton 1, ULM 0
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings but the Flyers were able to get on the board in the fourth. Senior Katie Ryan singled in senior Gabrielle Snyder for the contest's only run. Cash combined with Snyder and Weaver for the shutout. Hits were even at five apiece.

Dayton 11, Northern Kentucky 8
Northern Kentucky got off to a quick start in its first game of the season, leading Dayton 5-0 heading into the bottom of the third. The Flyers came alive, scoring two in the third and three in the fourth to even the score at five runs each. In the bottom of the sixth, UD exploded for six runs, pulling in front 11-5. NKU rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three, but could not overcome the deficit as Dayton held on for the 11-8 win.

UP NEXT
Dayton will again play two tomorrow, the second day of the Georgia Classic. The Flyers will kick off the day against the Norse at 10 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. match-up against the host Bulldogs immediately following.
