#UDWBB SUFFERS DEFEAT AT FORDHAM

The Flyers Are Tied With George Washington And Saint Louis For First Place

BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team fell to Fordham Sunday, 66-52, in an important Atlantic 10 showdown.

The Flyers (18-9, 12-3 A-10) are now tied for the conference lead while the Rams (19-10, 10-5 A-10) improve their position in the standings.

Final three minutes – The Flyers trailed by four, but fouls and missed opportunities allowed the Rams to pull away at the free throw line.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter – Dayton 14, Fordham 20
  • Fordham jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before making it an 8-2 Ram advantage.
  • Dayton cut the margin to four, but Fordham countered and pushed the margin to 13-6.
  • Senior Saicha Grant-Allen had four straight baskets for the Flyers, totaling eight of the initial 10 points for UD.
  • By the media break, Dayton trailed Fordham 15-10 thanks to three three-pointers by the Rams.

  • Sophomore Maddy Dennis followed with a three-pointer to give the Flyers their first lead of the game, 27-25.
  • Fordham hung with the surging Flyers thanks to four consecutive points from the free throw line going into the final minute.
  • Dayton trailed by five at the half.
  • Through the first 20 minutes, Grant-Allen led UD with 10 points and four rebounds while Alex Harris added five rebounds. Austria chipped in nine points as well.
3rd Quarter – Dayton 39, Fordham 44
  • The tempo of the game picked up to start the third with both teams trading baskets in the opening minutes.
  • Dayton closed the margin back to one at 38-37 thanks to contested buckets by Austria.
  • At the media timeout, the Flyers were in a one-possession game, down three.
  • Fordham came out and extended its lead back to seven with 3:11 to go, forcing a Dayton timeout.
  • UD kept with Fordham going into the final quarter, maintaining the five-point margin.
  • Both teams were shooting 43.6 percent from the field through 30 minutes.
4th Quarter – Dayton 52, Fordham 66
  • The fourth quarter was tight to start as Dayton attempted to fight its way back into the game.
  • The Flyers made it a two-point game on a Lauren Cannatelli three with just over five minutes remaining.
  • By the media break, Dayton faced a four-point deficit to Fordham.
  • The Flyers were unable to hit their shots down the stretch and just couldn't overcome the gap.
  • Fordham added to its lead with late free throws. The Rams' last 12 points were from the charity stripe.
