#UDBASE RALLIES TO BEAT GEORGETOWN

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team rallied in the top of the ninth inning to take down Georgetown 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field.

KEY MOMENT
- Trailing 7-6 in the top of the 9th inning, the Flyers got a single from Matt Poland to start the inning and Brandon Smith followed with a double to put runners on second and third.
- Nick Ryan smacked a grounder to second base that the defender couldn't handle, and both Poland and Smith were able to come around to score to put the Flyers ahead for good.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Bottom 1st
- Georgetown sent seven batters to the plate, hit for the cycle as a team in the inning, and jumped in front 4-0 to start the game.

Top 2nd 
- Dayton wasted no time in erasing the early deficit, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 5-4 advantage.
- Freshman Tate Hagan led off the frame with a solo homer to centerfield.
- Senior Nick Ryan capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run double.

Bottom 3rd
- The Hoyas came back to plate an unearned run in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 5-5. 

Top 5th 
- Hagan crushed his second home run of the game to right-center field to put Dayton ahead once again, 6-5.

Bottom 6th
- Georgetown pulled even at 6-6 on a groundout that plated the Hoyas' sixth run of the game.

Bottom 7th
- After a single and a walk to start the inning, the Hoyas executed a perfect safety squeeze to take a 7-6 lead.

Top 9th 
- Back-to-back pinch hit base hits by Matt Poland (single) and Brandon Smith (double), set the Flyers up with the chance to go ahead in the final frame.
- Ryan smacked a ball to second base that the Hoyas' fielder couldn't handle, allowing both runs to score and put the Flyers ahead 8-7.

KEY STATS
- Hagan's two homer game brings the freshman's season total to three.
- It's the second time this season that the Flyers have had a player hit two home runs in a game (Mitch Coughlin vs. Furman, Feb. 19).
- Ryan finished the game with three runs driven in to go along with his double.
- The pitching duo of freshman Tyler Jones and sophomore Tyler Henry allowed just two walks in nine innings of work.
- Dayton had at least 10 hits in all three games on the weekend, scoring 34 runs along the way.
