SOFTBALL COMPLETES SERIES SWEEP OF GEORGE WASHINGTON, 7-5

Flyers Open A-10 Play with Three Wins

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Dayton softball team completed a series sweep of George Washington with a 7-5 win Sunday in Atlantic 10 Conference action.

Dayton improves to 15-13 on the season and 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play while George Washington falls to 13-14 overall and 0-3 in league action.

Top First
Two of the first three Dayton batters were walked on and senior Katie Ryan reached on an error that enabled junior Kailee Budicin to reach home plate. Freshman Julia Blarr recorded a sacrifice flyout that plated sophomore Kyle Davidson and the Flyers went to the bottom of the inning in front, 2-0.

Top Second
With two runners on, senior Gabrielle Snyder doubled down the left field line collecting two RBI as Dayton went ahead of George Washington, 4-0.

Top Third
The Flyers got one more in the third as Ryan made it home when senior Hannah DeSalvo reached first on an error. After two and a half innings, UD was up 5-0.

Bottom Third
The Colonials mounted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs. With runners on the corners, George Washington's M. Linn singled but was able to make it all the way around the base path after an errant Dayton throw, tallying three Colonial runs. GW's Jenna Cone scored the final run of the inning with a home run to center, pulling the Colonials to within one, 5-4.

Top Fourth
Starting pitcher junior Manda Cash doubled and was replaced on the base by freshman Mallory Kimmell. With Budicin on second and Kimmell on third, Davidson collected a RBI with a single to left for Dayton's only score of the frame.

Bottom Fourth
Shelepak led off the inning with a solo home run and George Washington was again within one, 6-5.

Top Seventh
The final run of the game was plated by Blarr with a single to left field and Dayton held on for the 7-5 win and the 3-0 series sweep.

KEY STATS
2 - Davidson was the only Flyer to record multiple hits in the game, her 10th multi-hit game of the season. She was 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored and seven putouts
4 - the Colonials were plagued by errors early, committing all four within the first three innings of the game
9 - both Snyder and Davidson recorded a double two and both have a total of nine for the season

UP NEXT
Dayton will play two games at Saint Louis on Wednesday. The doubleheader will be the Flyers' lone mid-week Atlantic 10 match-up of the season. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
