DAYTON – The University of Dayton fell to the Miami Redhawks 16-9, Tuesday afternoon in the first of two games the in-state rivals will play this week.  
KEY MOMENT
- Miami tied the game in the fourth and in the very next inning, Redhawks first baseman Ross Haffey hit a two-run shot over the right field fence to give them a 5-3 lead, a lead that they would never surrender. 
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Bottom 2nd 
- With the bases loaded, catcher 
Matt Poland singled to right field to drive in two runs and get the Flyers on the board.
Bottom 3rd
- Dayton pushed another run across in the 3rd on a two-out double off the bat of 
Tate Hagan to take the 3-0 advantage.
Top 4th
- Miami scored on a groundout and then the next batter sent a pitch over the right field fence to even the score 3-3. 
Top 5th 
- The Redhawks got a pair of runs in the fifth courtesy of a two-out home run by Ross Haffey to give Miami their first lead of the day, 5-3. 
Top 6th 
- Miami extended their lead with three hits and three runs in the inning to break the game open and put the Redhawks up 8-3.
Top 7th 
- The Redhawks sent nine players to the plate in the seventh and plated four runs to give them a 12-3 lead.
Top 8th 
- For the fifth consecutive inning, Miami was able to plate multiple runs in an inning. This time, they scored two runs on three hits to give them a 14-3 lead.
Bottom 8th
- Dayton scored six runs in the eighth to chip away at the Miami lead and cut the deficit to 14-9.
Top 9th
- Just as the Flyers got back to within striking distance, the Redhawks' tacked on two more runs to bring the game to its final of 16-9.
KEY STATS
- With his three RBI in the game, freshman 
Tate Hagan took the team lead in runs batted in on the season with 18.
- The freshman went 4-for-5 in the game, his first career four-hit game, and had a double.
- Senior outfielder 
Brad Burkhart continues to play well, reaching base twice and scoring a run. He's now run his hitting streak to six-straight games.
- Freshman 
Dom Coconcelli made his collegiate debut, when he came on in relief in the eighth inning. He gave up two runs, but got one strikeout and a double play. 
- Dayton's offense tallied its nine runs on 11 hits and 11 walks.
