AKRON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team split its doubleheader at Akron Wednesday evening, winning the first game 7-3 and dropping the second 4-2 (5) after lightning ended it early.

Dayton is now 24-19 on the season while Akron moves to 20-23 overall.

KEY MOMENT
In the midst of a sixth-inning comeback, Dayton had tied the game at four runs apiece when the game was delayed due to lightning. Sophomore Kyle Davidson had doubled followed by a homerun by senior Katie Ryan to even the score. The game could not be resumed due to darkness so the offensive half inning for the Flyers was erased.

KEY STATS
.667 - senior Gabrielle Snyder continues to be an offensive stalwart for Dayton with a 4-for-6 day at the plate, including a triple and a home run
2 - sophomore Kelly Fitzgerald knocked out two home runs on the day, the first two long balls of her career

Dayton will return home for a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series against Rhode Island this weekend. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium. The teams will be wearing gold shoe laces for pediatric cancer awareness.
