#UDSB SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH RHODE ISLAND

The Flyers Won Game 1, 3-2, Before Losing Game 2, 5-4

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team won the first game of the Rhode Island series in dramatic fashion before falling in game two, despite a late rally.

Dayton moved to 25-20 overall on the season and 11-5 in Atlantic 10 play. Rhode Island moved to 7-30 on the year and 4-12 in conference games.

Game 1 – Dayton 3, Rhode Island 2
KEY MOMENT
Kailee Budicin's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 7th gave the Flyers the series-opening win.
 
KEY STATS
2-for-4 – Budicin was 2-for-4 in the game with two RBI, including the decisive one.
13 – Manda Cash struck out 13 batters, just one show of her career best.
5th – Dayton won its fifth game in the last six.
 
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Bottom of 2nd – Lisa Tassi scored on an error by the Ram second baseman.
Bottom of 3rd – Kailee Budicin led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to left-center.
Top of 6th – Rhode Island's Kylie Shivery hit a two-run home run off the scoreboard to tie the game up at 2-2.
Bottom of 7th – With two outs in the final at-bat, Budicin capped off her outstanding performance with a walk-off, RBI single to right, clinching the win for the Flyers.
 
Game 2 – Dayton 4, Rhode Island 5
KEY MOMENT
The Rams got a two-run double with the bases loaded in the fifth, capping off a three-run frame that put URI up 4-0.
 
KEY STATS
4 – Gabby Snyder recorded four RBI in the game after hitting a pair of home runs while going 2-for-4. She also scored two runs.
5 – Dayton matched Rhode Island with five hits each in the game.
7 – The Rams recorded just their seventh win of the season.
 
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Top of 4th – The Rams took a 1-0 lead when a runner scored on a fielder's choice after the Flyers were unable to complete the double play.
Top of 5th – A bases-loaded walk doubled Rhode Island's lead to 2-0. A two-run double then made it 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
Top of 6th – Two errors on one play added to Rhode Island's advantage, 5-0.
Bottom of 6th – Gabby Snyder helped her own cause with a solo home run to center, breaking up the shutout.
Bottom of 7th- Snyder hit her second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot to right-center, cutting the margin to one run.
 
UP NEXT
The Flyers finish up their series against the Rams Sunday at 12 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium. It will be Kids Day at the ballpark, with the children running the bases after the game. Free pizza will be available and there will be autographs after the game.
