OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Dayton baseball team was swept by St. Bonaventure in a double header on Sunday afternoon, falling 6-4 in Game One and 18-14 in Game Two at Fred Handler Park.
GAME ONE – ST. BONAVENTURE 6 DAYTON 4
KEY MOMENT
- After Dayton worked its way back into the game, tying the score in the Top of the 8th, St. Bonaventure put three runs on the scoreboard thanks to a hit batter and three-straight singles to put the game out of reach.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Bottom 5thÂ
- St. Bonaventure opened up the scoring with a single run in the fifth, taking advantage of a leadoff walk and a one-out double to go ahead 1-0.
Top 6thÂ
- Dayton scored its first run of the weekend without the courtesy of a hit, getting hit by two pitches, a perfect sacrifice bunt, and a wild pitch to tie the score 1-1.
Bottom 6thÂ
- The Bonnies jumped back ahead with two more runs in the inning thanks to a double and triple back-to-back, followed by a Flyers error, giving SBU a 3-1 lead.
Top 7thÂ
- UD pulled within a run at 3-2 thanks to a
Pat Meehan RBI single that brought home
Cale Dineen.
Top 8thÂ
- The Flyers tied the score at 3-3 courtesy of a St. Bonaventure error.
Bottom 8thÂ
- The first four batters of the frame reached for the Bonnies, with a two-run single highlighting the offense. By the time the dust settled, SBU held a 6-3 lead.

- Dayton tried to make things interesting, rallying for another run when redshirt sophomore
Brandon Smith drove home sophomore
Connor Echols, but the Flyers could get no closer, falling 6-4.
GAME TWO – ST. BONAVENTURE 18 DAYTON 14
KEY MOMENT
- After Dayton had taken its first lead of the series in the top of the fifth inning, St. Bonaventure erupted for 10 runs on nine hits to take a commanding lead they would never relinquish.Â

Bottom 1st
- St. Bonaventure jumped out in front 3-0, taking advantage of a walk, error, and smacking four hits.
Top 2ndÂ
- Dayton struck back with three runs of its own, benefiting from three straight walks to start the inning. The Flyers then got an RBI groundout and a two-run double from
Brad Burkhart to knot the score, 3-3.
Bottom 2ndÂ
- SBU plated another run thanks to a two-out single, taking the lead back at 4-3.
Bottom 3rd
- The Bonnies pushed their lead to 5-3 thanks to a walk, sacrifice bunt, stolen base, and sacrifice fly that plated another run.
Top 4th
- Sophomore
Pat Meehan drove home a pair to tie the score, 5-5, with a single up the middle that scored
Cale Dineen and
Brad Burkhart.

- UD took its first lead of the weekend thanks to aggressive baserunning by
Tate Hagan, putting the Flyers ahead 6-5.
Bottom 5th
- St. Bonaventure jumped right back ahead, plating 10 runs on nine hits, with the exclamation point coming via a three-run home run. After the inning ended, SBU led 15-6.
Top 8thÂ
- Dayton inched a bit closer thanks to a bases loaded groundout by Hagan, making the score 15-7.
Bottom 8th
- SBU struck back for three runs in their half of the inning, getting five hits in the frame, including a two-out, two run double that made the score 18-7.
Top 9thÂ
- The Flyers batted around in the final frame, scoring seven runs, smacking five hits, working two walks and getting hit by a pitch.
- Freshman
Takahiro Yamada had the big hit of the inning, knocking a bases-loaded double off the left field wall to clear the bases.
- UD wouldn't be able to bring the tying run to the plate, running out of steam with the final score of 18-14.
