#UDMSOC Rallies To Defeat Central Arkansas, 2-1

Goals In The 79th And 86th Minute Gave The Flyers The Victory

DAYTON  – The University of Dayton men's soccer team scored in the 86th minute to seal the come-from-behind victory over Central Arkansas Friday night in the second game of the Dayton Flyer Classic.

The Flyers (2-1-2) trailed in the 30th minute, but second half goals by redshirt junior Nick Hagenkord and freshman Thor Helgason sent the Bears (0-5-0) to their fifth loss of the season

KEY STATS
  • Dayton dominated possession in the game and totaled 23 shots, 14 in the second half alone.
  • The Flyers put seven nine on target while the Bears had just three.
  • Helgason scored his team high third goal of the season after being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week earlier this week.
  • Hagenkord scored his first goal of the season on the unassisted goal.
  • Senior Lance Gasper recorded his first assist of the campaign on the game-winning goal.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Federico Barrios had two saves in the start.
  • Dayton benefited from a 10-1 corner kick advantage.

COACH'S COMMENTS
  • "I thought in the first half our decision making was a little off," said head coach Dennis Currier. "I thought their goalkeeper came up big to keep them in the game. The foul that we gave up was sloppy on our part to give them the lead, but the second half, the guys showed a lot of character coming back and tying the game up. I thought the last 20 minutes we played very inspired and really pressed them very well, and we got control of the game. You felt like it was a matter of time before we got on the scoreboard. Both goals were very good and I think for that aspect the team grew quite a bit tonight being able to fight back from that 1-0 deficit to get the win."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers will return finish up the Dayton Flyer Classic Sunday at Baujan. Fort Wayne faces Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. before Dayton hosts Liberty at 2 p.m. After the final game, the All-Tournament Team will be announced and the championship trophy will be handed out.
